The goal this offseason for the San Francisco 49ers was to add speed and guys who can separate to the receiver room. The first step was adding a big-bodied outside receiver, Mike Evans, who described himself as the final piece for the 49ers and their Super Bowl chances. Ricky Pearsall and Evans form a very intriguing duo, health permitting. Jauan Jennings remains unsigned, Kendrick Bourne is in Arizona, and the 49ers are hoping for a jump from Jordan Watkins and Jacob Cowing.
Needless to say, the
49ers aren’t done adding to the receiver group, whether in free agency or the draft. It has been reported that the 49ers will have Indiana wide receiver Omar Cooper, Jr. in for a top-30 visit, and KC Concepcion has been a popular name in mock drafts for the 49ers at pick 27.
It is almost a certainty that the 49ers use one of their first two picks on a receiver.
Max Chadwick of Pro Football Focus released his latest three-round mock draft, and the 49ers start their draft off with Concepcion at 27.
27. San Francisco 49ers: WR KC Concepcion, Texas A&M
San Francisco’s receiving corps is in complete flux right now. George Kittle tore his Achilles in January, Brandon Aiyuk is set to be released, and Jauan Jennings is a free agent. Concepcion paced the SEC with 48 receptions that went for either a first down or a touchdown in 2025 and is a dangerous player with the ball in his hands.
The 49ers second round pick adds EDGE firepower, with the 49ers adding to the defensive tackle room after the trade with Dallas.
58. San Francisco 49ers: EDGE Malachi Lawrence, UCF
Lawrence tore up the combine and finished with the highest athleticism score per Next Gen Stats amongst EDGE players at 86.
Here is what NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein thinks of Lawrence:
“An NFL-caliber edge rusher with prototypical size and length, Lawrence moves with the suddenness of a smaller player. Explosive get-off and a deep bag of moves/counters fuel his pocket disruption. He can win inside or outside but his speed-to-power conversion is average. His hands are subtle but skilled to quickly unlock openings and his secondary rush. He closes with burst and has the motor to hound scrambling quarterbacks. The next level will bring better tackles and more quick-sets, which will test how well his production translates. He makes splash plays behind the line but must provide better consistency and discipline in run support. Lawrence is an ascending prospect with rush polish and pro traits that should be enticing for pressure-hungry defenses.”
With the final pick of the three-round mock, the 49ers add a safety in the third round.
92. San Francisco 49ers – S Genesis Smith, Arizona
The Arizona safety finished with the fourth-highest athleticism score at the combine and an overall score of 72, which is good for 12th.
Zierlein believes Smith will be an average backup in the NFL.
“Smith offers ballhawking coverage qualities but has alarming issues as an open-field tackler. He’s instinctive, with the eyes to digest route development while reading the quarterback like a poker player looking for tells. He has average top-end speed but good route recognition and premium ball skills. Smith is a low-impact run defender and open-field tackler, though. There are too many times he either whiffs or has a tackle broken, allowing a much longer gain. His run defense won’t appeal to some teams, but his ability to read the field and make plays on the football will entice other squads looking for a safety on Day 3.”
