DAZN has partnered with TNT Sports for a new monthly series simply titled The Fight, which kicks off on July 4th. Per Mike Coppinger, this likely means that the inaugural TNT main event will see Abdullah Mason defend his lightweight title against Joe Cordina in Cleveland.
Mason (20-0, 17 KO) will be making the inaugural defense of his WBO belt, which he claimed last November in a terrific slugfest with Sam Noakes. Cordina (19-1, 9 KO), 12 years his elder, has won both of his lightweight bouts since
a destructive loss to Anthony Cacace cost him the IBF super featherweight belt.
Neither Top Rank nor Matchroom have officially announced the matchup, but it’s a good one, pitting a phenomenally talented but still developing young champion against an experienced and pedigreed former titlist. We’ll let you all know if and when it’s on the books.
In addition to The Fight, the press release boasts that:
TNT Sports’ networks and platforms, including Bleacher Report and House of Highlights, will produce and deliver additional content and original programming that brings fight fans closer to the action and drama of boxing. truTV will also serve as a meaningful platform for robust boxing content, airing additional live and shoulder programming to further elevate fight nights, including event weigh-ins, press conferences, features and original content, and more.
