
Sunday’s star of the day had to be recent first round pick Tate Southisene, who had a three-hit day for Augusta. Southisene singled, doubled, tripled, and scored three runs for the GreenJackets in the best game of his very young career. Owen Carey, Nick Montgomery, and Brett Sears were also among the other players who stood out on Sunday in a day that saw the organization drop two of three and see a fourth game rained out.

Dane Dunning made the start and dug the Stripers into an early
hole, giving up a run in the first and four more in the second. He finished by going four innings and allowing five runs on eight hits with a pair of strikeouts. Davis Daniel went the next four innings in relief, allowing a pair of runs on five hits and a pair of walks, striking out none.

Brett Sears turned in a very strong outing, going five and two thirds and allowing just one run on four hits and no walks with eight strikeouts. Sears left the game an out shy of six innings at 86 pitches and outside of a solo homer in the second inning was pretty much untouchable in this outing. Ryan Bourassa went the next inning and a third, striking out a pair, before Blane Abeyta went the final two innings with three strikeouts. Combined the Columbus trio allowed a run on five hits and a walk with 13 strikeouts.
The offense came in a pretty balanced attack. EJ Exposito was three for four with a double, two steals, and a pair of runs batted in to lead the way. Geraldo Quintero was two for five with a double and an RBI, Jim Jarvis walked, doubled, and scored three times. Ethan Workinger walked, singled, stole a base, and scored twice. Even Cade Bunnell walked and singled and Kevin Kilpatrick Jr. had a pair of hits in the win.

Jacob Shafer got the ball for this start and went five solid innings, giving up just a pair of unearned runs on two hits and three walks with his four strikeouts. Shafer actually just allowed one unearned run on one hit through five, but came back out for the sixth and allowed an immediate double before being pulled from the game for Owen Hackman. Hackman allowed the inherited runner to score, but didn’t allow any hits, runs, or walks over two innings of work with a pair of strikeouts. Albert Rivas followed for two innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits with one strikeout. The tenth belonged to undrafted free agent Jaylen Paden, who allowed the inherited runner to score but no further damage.
Tate Southisene and Owen Carey powered the Augusta offense in this one. Southisene, the recent first round pick, was three for five with a double, triple, and three runs scored. Carey went also collected three hits and a double, but added a walk and three RBI. John Gil and Nick Montgomery each reached base three times as well, with Gil singling, stealing a base, and drawing a pair of walks and Montgomery drawing three walks. Eric Hartman added a triple, while Juan Mateo singled and batted in a run in the loss.
