According to a report from Abendzeitung’s Maximilian Koch (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen is working extremely hard to keep the club in talks with VfB Stuttgart for attacker Nick Woltemade.
Some issues that Dreesen is facing are the Stuttgart’s lack of focus on a sell-on fee (they think it is useless), the alleged deal between Woltemade’s camp and Stuttgart regarding a “commission”, and the timing of a move, and the overall transfer fee structure:
Nick Woltemade
would earn €7-10m gross per year on a 5-year contract until 2030 at Bayern. Bayern’s latest offer was worth over €60m and a sell-on clause for Stuttgart. VfB, however, believe the sell-on clause is worthless because Bayern are not a selling club. Woltemade’s camp was ready to waive the entire commission, promised to them by Stuttgart when he joined on a free from Bremen (around 10% of the transfer fee). Bayern offered a fixed fee of €55m, which makes the commission worth €5.5m, taking the overall offer to more than €60m. Stuttgart demanded a package of €75m.
Stuttgart’s sporting leadership with Wehrle and Wohlgemuth has signaled to Woltemade’s camp that they were open to selling him. However, the VfB supervisory board disagreed and insisted on its strict stance. Hence the extremely high demand of €75m.
From Bayern’s perspective, the limit set by the supervisory board has so far been €55m. Jan-Christian Dreesen, in particular, is fighting to keep the deal alive. Max Eberl, on the other hand, has been tasked with looking for an alternative. Christopher Nkunku is the hottest candidate.
As stated above, board member for sport Max Eberl will continue to look for alternatives until the Woltemade situation improves, but one other key note is that Dreesen will have to win over Stuttgart and his own supervisory board for this deal to happen.
Hopefully this is not one of those “blood from a stone” situations.
