Barcelona defender Jules Kounde has reportedly attracted serious interest from Tottenham Hotspur, who are said to be preparing a €65 million bid for the Frenchman.
Several outlets in England say Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi admires Kounde’s versatility as a full-back and center-back and sees him as a good fit, especially given the likely departure of captain Cristian Romero this summer.
The links make sense given Spurs’ need at the position and Kounde’s uncertain status at Barça after a mostly inconsistent
season. But his performance at the World Cup and his clear message about his desire to stay at the club make any sale unlikely, so Spurs’ interest — despite a solid offer — will probably not turn into anything else.
But it is interesting that Spurs appear to want Kounde at the same time that Barça have been linked to both Romero and Spain’s World Cup breakout star Pedro Porro, so a more fertile mind might cook up some trade possibilities involving those players.
My mind is not that fertile, though. I’d rather have Kounde coming off a really good World Cup and with a renewed desire to impress Hansi Flick and return to his sensational 2024-25 form.
