La Liga president Javier Tebas has officially confirmed that Barcelona’s clash with Villarreal will take place in Miami after UEFA gave the plan the green light.
The two sides will now face off in the United
States, and not at La Ceramica, in December and Tebas has hailed the game as an “historic step” for La Liga.
“With this match, we take a historic step that launches La Liga and Spanish football into a new dimension. We understand and respect the concerns this decision may generate, but it’s important to put it in context: this is just one match out of the 380 that make up the season.
“La Liga represents millions of fans around the world, including many who passionately follow their teams and also deserve the opportunity to experience them live at least once. This match seeks to bring our football closer to this global fan base without undermining our commitment to those who enjoy it in Spain’s stadiums every matchday.”
The game against Villarreal in Miami will be Barcelona’s final La Liga match of 2025. The Catalans will return to action in January 4th against Espanyol in La Liga and will then head to Saudi Arabia for the Spanish Super Cup
