Good morning, Bulldog fans. The SEC season opens this week with a true road test for the ‘Dawgs.
Georgia opened as a 6.5 point favorite over the Vols in Knoxville. That seems like too many points if you watched the two teams last week. But it seems like too few if you’ve watched the last nine games contested between these teams.
The folks over at our orange clad sister site Rocky Top Talk very much enjoyed the Vols’ 72-17 win over East Tennessee State, and some are predictably confident about this
weekend.
DawgNation’s Stock Report notes something I didn’t realize during the game, which is that Gunner Stockton didn’t attempt (much less complete) a single pass to the tight ends the entire game. That’s the first time that’s happened since 2019, and seems even more improbable when you consider how rarely Georgia threw the ball downfield on Saturday. The tight end is often a young QB’s safety blanket, and it will be interesting to see if veterans Oscar Delp and Lawson Luckie feature more in the game plan going forward.
Away from the gridiron, Bulldog golf commit Mason Howell continued his tear through the amateur golf world this week, keying a U.S. victory in the Walker Cup with an unbelievable walk-off eagle. Howell won’t arrive in Athens until next year, but by that time the 18 year old will have played in his first Masters. Wow.
That should get you started on your Monday.
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
