The Green Bay Packers announced on Wednesday that the team has already ruled out three of their starters against the Carolina Panthers in Week 8: center Sean Rhyan, right guard Travis Glover and Mike linebacker Zaire Franklin. The Rhyan and Franklin rulings were expected coming into the week, but Glover being out for Thursday Night Football likely means that Kevin Zeitler will get the starting job in Glover’s place. According to head coach Matt LaFleur, the team wasn’t notified about Glover’s knee
injury until Monday morning.
Beyond the players ruled out, four players were listed as questionable: receiver Matthew Golden (shoulder/foot), defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt (ankle), defensive lineman Anthony Campbell (ankle) and edge defender Brenton Cox Jr. (quadricep).
The expectation right now is that the Packers will scratch three offensive linemen (including both Rhyan and Glover), Franklin and running back Kaleb Johnson to get their 53-man active roster down to their 48-man game-day roster. With that being said, if Green Bay is down players at any other position (the players listed as questionable), they might need to call up bodies from the practice squad to backfill at those spots.
On the Panthers’ side of the injury report, the team ruled out four players, including two starters in edge defender Jaelan Phillips and guard Damien Lewis. Carolina was already hurting on both lines of scrimmage, as their defense cannot stop the run, and the team already lost one starting offensive lineman — Taylor Moton — to the injured reserve.
