The Tampa Bay Rays had a golden opportunity to make up some ground but instead the worst possible outcome occured as they were swept by the New York Yankees in a two game set. They were completely dominated in game one as the Yankees launched 9 HR in the game and then on Wednesday, the Rays offense was quiet before rallying to tie the game late only for Pete Fairbanks to squander it by giving up three runs in the 10th inning.
Looking for a single player who stood out from the rest in terms of their
production and I give the nod to Bob Seymour, playing his first series at home for the Rays since making his big league debut over the weekend. Seymour was hitless on Tuesday, but made a impact on Wednesday as he launched a solo homerun (the first of his career) in the 8th inning to put the Rays on the board. Later on in the 10th, with the Rays trailing by three, Seymour led off and singled home the runner on second base to make it a two run game.
Seymour has made 17 plate appearances since joining the Rays and it’s been a struggle thus far as he is hitting .188/.235/.375 with 8 strikeouts. Perhaps the best game of his career thus far will serve as a spark for him the rest of the way.
