The 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup is less than a year away, and we finally have a schedule. Yesterday, FIFA released the match schedule for the tournament, with all 64 matches receiving dates and venues.
The Maracanã, the famous stadium in Rio de Janeiro, will have the honor of hosting the opening match of the 2027 Women’s World Cup on June 24th, which will feature hosts Brazil. They will also host the Women’s World Cup Final on July 25th, becoming just the third stadium to officially host World Cup finals
for both the men’s and women’s tournaments. The other two stadiums that have official hosted both the World Cup Final and the Women’s World Cup Final are the legendary Rose Bowl in Pasadena (1994 World Cup, 1999 Women’s World Cup) and the now-closed Råsunda in Stockholm (1958 World Cup, 1995 Women’s World Cup).
The 2027 Women’s World Cup match schedule:
São Paulo’s Neo Química Arena, the home of Corinthians FC that opened the 2014 World Cup, will host the most matches (10) of any venue in the tournament, including a semifinal as well as the Bronze Final. The Maracanã in Rio and Arena Castelão in Fortaleza will each host 9 matches, with the Maracanã hosting the other semifinal in addition to the opener and the final. Fortaleza will host two Round of 16 matches as well as a quarterfinal.
The venues, with capacities and the number of matches they will each host:
-Neo Química Arena (renamed Arena Itaquera), São Paulo, (capacity 48,905) – 10 matches
–Estádio do Maracanã, Rio de Janeiro (capacity 73,139) – 9 matches
–Arena Castelão, Fortaleza (capacity 57,867) – 9 matches
–Estádio Mineirão, Belo Horizonte (capacity 66,658) – 8 matches
-Arena BRB Mané Garrinha (renamed Estádio Nacional Mané Garrincha during the Women’s World Cup), Brasília (capacity 69,910) – 7 matches
–Estádio Beira-Rio, Porto Alegre (capacity 50,848) – 7 matches
-Casa de Apostas Arena Fonte Nova (renamed Arena Fonte Nova), Salvador (capacity 47,915) – 7 matches
–Arena Pernambuco, Recife (capacity 45,440) – 7 matches
FIFA will have each group traveling throughout the country during the group stage, with Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo serving as potential home bases. Group E is the only group that does not have a match either in Rio or São Paulo during the group stage.
The United States Women’s National Team still needs to qualify for the 2027 Women’s World Cup. That will take place with their opening match of the 2026 Concacaf W Championship in November against El Salvador. Should they win that quarterfinal match, they will qualify directly for the Women’s World Cup. If they lose, they would have a chance to earn qualification through the playoff route. However, if they qualify, they will be assured to be a seeded team when the draw happens in December.
