Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer hates to miss any game, but the veteran was felled by an illness this week, which has left his status in doubt for Saturday’s game against SC Freiburg.
Head coach Vincent
Kompany addressed Neuer’s status at his press conference, but also revealed a few other issues that have arisen during the international break.
“With Manu we have to see. He was a bit ill. Hopefully he’ll be back in training today. Serge (Gnabry) probably won’t be available. He felt something after he was back from the national team. Maybe he’ll be back the game after Freiburg. Joshua Kimmich will definitely be there tomorrow. Hiroki Itō will be back in the squad,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Alphonso (Davies) is an incredible athlete. Even though he’s not yet at 100%, he’s probably already the fastest player in the squad again. With Phonzy we need a bit of patience. If he plays in one or two games this year, that would already be fantastic.”
Neuer was spotted at practice earlier today and is expected to start per Bild (via @iMiaSanMia):
Manuel Neuer took part in the final training session today after recovering from illness and will almost certainly start against Freiburg tomorrow.
One player, who can expected to play is Luis Díaz, who is suspended for Bayern Munich’s Champions League game against Arsenal on Wednesday.
“For him, workload management is out of the question tomorrow. He has to help us with his energy and play for as long as possible. But honestly the game against Arsenal doesn’t have a big impact. The boys are going into the Freiburg game with a lot of energy. Most of them played four days ago. We want to win the game and aren’t thinking about Arsenal yet,” said Kompany. “My information is that he’s suspended for one game. I don’t know when it will be communicated, but I’d be disappointed if my information were to be incorrect.”
