Becky Lynch took Bayley to task during a war of words between the two Tuesday on X.
After Bayley won a gauntlet match to earn a Women’s Intercontinental title match with champion AJ at next Monday’s Raw, Lynch expressed concern for WWE’s women’s division.
“Can you believe that next week on Raw we’re getting Absolute Joke vs. Basic Bayley for my Intercontinental Title? Some are saying it could be the worst match in the history of Raw. What has WWE become?” Lynch wrote, adding that her attorney would
attempt to keep the match from happening.
Bayley fired back, in all caps. She suggested that Lynch, who was absent from the show, was not missed. Then, Bayley took a shot at Lynch’s work schedule while humble-bragging about her own attendance.
“Why don’t you go ahead and take another year off, Becks,” Bayley replied. “The consistent Role Model work horse(woman) and soon-to-be your new Women’s IC champ is forever clocked in and has everything under control.”
Lynch’s final retort seemed to end the war of words, at least for now. “It would have been a longer break, but I had to come back because certain role models were dropping the ball! Typical,” Lynch wrote, adding a reminder of how she made the Women’s Intercontinental Title “the hottest championship” in pro wrestling.
Lynch’s concerns about the state of the women’s division are not unfounded. According to Cagematch statistics, Bayley was 1-4 in her last five singles matches before winning Monday’s gauntlet. That included losses to Women’s Champion Jade Cargill at live events.
Several losses to a reigning champion usually force a challenger to restart their title quest. Bayley, however, was immediately inserted into the women’s I.C. title picture.
Meanwhile, Lynch, the previous title holder, is still waiting for her customary rematch against Lee, who won the title from “The Man” at Elimination Chamber in February.
