According to NFL reporter Jordan Schultz, the Green Bay Packers will hire T.C. McCartney to the team’s coaching staff for the 2026 season. His role at this point is undefined, other than “offensive assistant.”
The former backup quarterback at LSU entered the coaching world immediately after his playing days and got his start with the Cleveland Browns in 2014, as an offensive assistant under offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. He later followed Kyle Shanahan to San Francisco for the 2017 and 2018
seasons.
He became an on-field coach at the NFL level in 2019 with the Denver Broncos as a quarterbacks coach. He also coached tight ends for the 2022 to 2023 Browns and the 2024 New England Patriots. His time with the Patriots overlapped with Packers defensive line coach DeMarcus Covington, who was the defensive coordinator for the team at the time.
T.C. is the grandson of Bill McCartney, a college football hall of famer who is best remembered for coaching Colorado to a split national title in 1990. T.C. is the son of Bill’s daughter, Kristy, and Bill’s former starting quarterback, Sal Aunese. Aunese passed away from stomach cancer at 21 years old, just months after T.C. was born.
