That’s two Septembers in a row the Sixers have had a member of their 2024 draft class get injured. The team announced that Adem Bona has suffered a sprain in his left foot and will be re-evaluated at the start of training camp. Further updates will be provided as appropriate.
More information about the injury comes courtesy of Tony Jones of the Athletic, who reported that Bona picked up this injury in the FIBA World Cup qualifying games this summer. Bona is a part of the Türkiye national team and
played in four games for them this summer. The timeline is interesting for any internet sleuth out there. Bona posted these workout pictures a few days ago, weeks after the last qualifier games. The good news is Jones said Bona is expected to return within the first two weeks of camp.
As is often the case with Sixers’ injuries, it’s unfortunate timing with training camp right around the corner. Sixers’ Media Day is in 11 days on Sep. 28, with training camp to begin just after. Hopefully Jones’ report ends up coming true and he doesn’t miss too much of camp.
This blog will have more on the subject as we get deeper into our player previews, but the center depth was already looking shaky with Bona penciled in. At the very least, this injury is a good reminder of how shallow the position is if one of them gets injured, and that group is headlined by Joel Embiid. Bona will want to get back to the court soon, because he and Ariel Hukporti have a lot to prove this season.
