Today, on CBS Mornings, the NWSL’s 17th franchise unveiled its name, logo, and colors.
The expansion side is set to make their NWSL debut in 2028 and will be officially called Atlanta City FC alongside their phoenix logo and red/peach colors.
Among the details, there’s the Dogwood tree, with its four petals that symbolize unity and community across all four seasons. The main figure at the center is a phoenix that “embodies the notion that something extraordinary can arise from destruction.” The bird
has an “A” hidden that “holds the city at its heart, a symbol of unwavering pride and the promise to always rise.”
Additional design elements include the Root System Pattern, the Feather Pattern, the Chevron Pattern, and the Roundel, all with their own meanings.
The club selected a color palette featuring Atlanta Red and Georgia Peach.

As Atlanta City FC prepares to kick off at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2028, the team logo shows a lot of thought behind its creation, using a mythological and powerful figure to represent the team.
The name is simple, and some might say it’s boring since it doesn’t include any word associated with the phoenix or a word that can create an identity (for example, Gotham’s players are commonly known as the Bats, which is unique), but the name of the city itself. With the special logo and team colors, there’s way more the club could have done.
However, although they played it safe with the name, they went all in with the crest – it is a great one, to be honest. It shows a lot of imagination, and it’s directly tied to the city’s history, something that is always welcome when it comes to crests. Also, the phoenix is not only associated with something strong but also magnificent.
The colors are truly one-of-a-kind because no other NWSL team has them. The colors chosen, plus the patterns in the crest, can give us a glimpse of what to expect for their inaugural jerseys. Just like Kansas’ teal, Atlanta’s red-peach kits have the potential to be one of the very best. With the right matching colors, those kits could be some of the best in the league in 2028.
