During a recent virtual signing, Tonga Loa spoke about his release from WWE earlier this year as well as how he’s a “little envious” that his brothers are currently working with their dad, wrestling legend Haku.
Loa was among the massive roster cuts at WWE following WrestleMania 42. Prior to his release, he had been a member of The MFT stable under Solo Sikoa. Fellow MFT member JC Mateo (aka Jeff Cobb) was also let go at the time.
Loa returned to the company in 2024 following a run years before, and
he held the WWE Tag Team Titles with his brother Tama Tonga during his second stint.
Speaking about his two runs with WWE during the K & S WrestleFest signing, Loa said: “I enjoyed them both. This time, I enjoyed it more, because I was sober.”
He continued, “What was even better was I was there with Tama (Tonga) and Talla (Tonga). Even though we got to wrestle in Japan a little bit, we didn’t get to wrestle with Talla that much. But then, when we were all over with WWE and Talla was finally on the main roster, it was fun.”
When asked about why he was released, Loa ducked the question and veered the talk back to his brothers’ currently working with the company. As of press time, the current incarnation of The MFTs —comprised of Tama and Talla — hold the WWE Tag Team Championship.
“I’m just really happy that our dad is up there now,” Loa said of Haku. “Not gonna lie, I’m a little envious that my brothers get to work with my dad on the road, but, I’m happy that he’s back.”
Loa eventually shared on the K & S WrestleFest signing how he felt about being let go from WWE.
“I had a feeling [about being cut], because I was released the week after the big release of 20-plus talent, and I just felt like it was just going to happen the following week,” he said. “Jeff (Cobb) and I got released the following week, and that week, just filming and stuff, I could just feel it.”
Loa added: “My first time getting released was a shock to me. But I was young then and probably drank too much too, but I was real clear-headed [the second time], and I could feel it and I just had a better understanding of just the business.”
