Bayern Munich are heavy favorites to lift the Bundesliga once again this season and it didn’t take the home side long to show why that is. While there are still new faces here adjusting to the team, the match was the perfect start to the season, with Bayern getting in the win column in front of the Allianz Arena crowd.
Jersey Swap: Finn Jeltsch
After giving Josha Vagnomann plenty of criticism in the past for his brief appearances for the German national team, the Stuttgart defender came up big for the visitors today. Outside
of the goal, the German had a generally strong game and was an impressive player for Stuttgart on the day. That of course changed when the German defender made a comical error of an own goal, sliding into the ball, putting it past his own goalkeeper.
While Finn Jeltsch had less memorable moments in the match, his consistency at his age is remarkable, and he is the clear leader of an already strong backline. Jeltsch remains a bright young star to watch out for in the future.
Der Kaiser: Alphonso Davies
It would be easy to give the choice to Upamecano after he opened up Bayern’s account for the Bundesliga season, and had an overall impressive match. However, Upamecano often gets his flowers for how great he has been over the last year.
Another player that does deserve their flowers today is Davies. The Canadian was highly criticized for sitting out the majority of the World Cup for his host nation, but the defender looks hungry this season in a way we haven’t seen in some time. While he won’t be credited for any goal contributions today, it was his action that lead to Vagnomann’s own goal. If Davies can keep up this attacking threat all year round, Kompany will have a ridiculous amount of good options at his disposal.
Fußballgott: Aleksandar Pavlović
The star of the midfield today wasn’t Pavlović, but being a good midfielder isn’t all about the flashy moments. Pavlović played much better today than he did at the World Cup, and a goal is certainly going to be a massive boost for his confidence. While many are going to be asking for Tom Bischof to get more minutes, Pavlović certainly made his case today.
Der Bomber: Michael Olisé
The Frenchman has shown just why he captured the world’s attention this summer at the World Cup. While Olisé was already a star in the making when he joined Bayern, he is now a certified global superstar and he showed why he has earned that reputation today. Bayern fans will be hoping their franchise player sticks around for a long time.
In his brief but highly memorable appearance on the pitch today, Ismael Saibari looked like an absolute game changer for Bayern. Fans have a lot to be excited about when seeing Saibari in this match.
Meister of the Match: Joshua Kimmich
Kimmich looked like a player at the peak of his powers in this match. His first assist on the day was nothing special, but a strong corner which led to Bayern’s first goal of the season. His second assist was incredibly impressive with a strong presence that allowed him to cut into Stuttgart territory and lay off a near-perfect ball for Michael Olisé.
Overall, Bayern made an excellent impression in the 2026/27 Bundesliga opener, and fans will expect great things for this team this season.
