Touchdowns & takeaways from OTA No. 5 | Giants.com
A strong and steady Meadowlands wind was the 12th defender on the field today, but Jaxson Dart powered through it with a handful of deep completions, including a touchdown to running back Eric Gray down the left sideline.
With Malik Nabers out for the time being, wide receiver Calvin Austin III has made the most of his time with the second-year quarterback. Dart found the 5-foot-9, 162-pound former Steeler for a long completion during 7-on-7 drills, once again driving
it into the wind. Dart’s best throw of the day was a well-placed ball to wide receiver Beaux Collins through a couple of defenders during 7-on-7 work. He also showed some zip on a pass to wide receiver Xavier Gipson.
In what has become a daily occurrence, rookie linebacker Arvell Reese was in the perfect spot at the perfect time to line up a potential big hit after a completion to begin a two-minute drill. The defensive staff certainly can’t wait to see plays like that all the way through once they get into a game setting. Safety Tyler Nubin kicked off 11-on-11s with a nice pass breakup, his first of two on the day. The third-year pro and former second-round draft choice has caught the attention of his new head coach.

Undeniable reason NY Giants can count on Malachi Fields as a rookie | The Record
To gain a true appreciation for what the New York Giants see in Malachi Fields, don’t just turn on his highlight tape from last season at Notre Dame.
Watch those for recent first-round running backs Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price and it’s undeniable.
“When scouts were falling in love with Love and Price, the smart ones were also taking notice of the guy wearing No. 0 doing the dirty work to help make those plays happen,” an NFL personnel executive said. “That’s the value of Malachi Fields the real ones see.”

Another position that’s been a weakness at times over the last few seasons, there are plenty of new faces in the cornerbacks’ room. The Giants signed Greg Newsome II and drafted Colton Hood with their second-round pick. The team also declined 2023 first-rounder Deonte Banks’ fifth-year option.
During the one open practice, Hood did not participate. Newsome started opposite Paulson Adebo, while Ar’Darius Washington was the first-team slot corner, with Dru Phillips not in attendance. Given Hood’s draft status and Harbaugh’s comments after his selection, it’s not hard to envision that he could end up with a starting role. As Harbaugh said, Hood is competing to start.
John Harbaugh’s gamble on underachieving Giants safety duo will soon be tested | New York Post
When a team selects a player in the NFL draft and it turns out that player is a major disappointment, the team invariably gets roasted for making an ill-advised pick.
What is often ignored or dismissed is this: The player did not pan out, but that does not always mean the team messed up.

Which NFL players have the most money at stake in 2026? | NFL.com
Kayvon Thibodeaux. It’s hard to believe this will be Thibodeaux’s fifth NFL season. It’s equally surprising that he’s still only 25 years old. Thibodeaux is the ultimate enigma at this stage of his career, with a strong first two seasons to his name but also a disappointing past two seasons (and a season-ending shoulder injury in 2025) that mar his forecast. Will the former No. 5 overall pick be a star or a bust? Either eventual result wouldn’t be shocking.
This just feels like a flashpoint season for Thibodeaux, who is playing on the fifth-year tender, with a new coaching staff running the Giants and with more defensive firepower alongside him. The Giants drafted Arvell Reese and will play him inside as a linebacker, which buys Thibodeaux some time to prove himself as an edge rusher. That said, he’s still likely third in the pass-rush pecking order behind Brian Burns and Abdul Carter. Thibodeaux’s name has been floated in trade rumors, but it appears the Giants will see what he can do in 2026. A breakout season could lead to a massive payout. Another season in the wrong direction would leave his options far murkier, even with all of Thibodeaux’s raw ability.
2026 NFL offseason: NFC teams’ best and worst deals, picks | ESPN.com
Best: Trading Dexter Lawrence II for the 10th pick. The fact that the Bengals gave Lawrence only a modest raise as part of the trade makes it clear that this wasn’t really about the money for the Giants. Maybe they noticed how the defense played in 2025. The Giants were last in EPA per play against designed runs. You can chalk that up to Lawrence’s injury, the cycle of players they went through at linebacker after Micah McFadden went down in the opener, bad tackling and angles at the second and third levels, or all kinds of other factors. But the reality is the Giants were already the worst run defense in the league with Lawrence. How much worse could they be without him?
Worst: Extending Joe Schoen. Schoen had a year left on his deal. Were the Giants really going to be stuck if they let Schoen play out the final year of that contract before deciding whether he was an essential part of the organization and in need of an extension? Would anybody be surprised if Harbaugh wants to bring in some Ravens executives 12 months from now?
