Nebraska 3-Oregon 0: 25-13, 25-16, 25-20
Like football, Nebraska volleyball had a late start time tonight for their match. While it was only 7pm on the west coast, it was already after 9pm when it began in Lincoln. It didn’t get to begin on TV though.
Scheduling volleyball matches on TV hasn’t really been great this season. Now, trying to speculate how long a match will be is hard. It could go 3. It could go 5. You kind of have to schedule it like every match will go 5 though.
This is the 2nd Husker
match that has started on the Fox app because of scheduling not giving enough time for more than 3 sets to be played. Grrrrr. Alright my rant is over, but it really does suck when this kind of thing happens because not everyone knows to go to the Fox Sports App.
The match finally came on B1G Network at 8-2 Huskers in the 1st set. Right when the game flipped over, it was said that this was the first ever sell out crowd, for volleyball, at Matthew-Knight Arena with over 12,000 people in attendance tonight.
You can tell the Huskers didn’t want to start this weekend like they did last. They came out flying and quickly took set 1 from the Ducks 25-13. They definitely cleaned up their mistakes from last weekend whether that be their setting, hitting, etc. Hell, it could’ve just been the fact that they needed a little extra rest.
Through 2 sets of play, the Huskers only had four hitting errors. This is a complete 180 from last weekend. I keep bringing up last weekends matches in Michigan because it is probably the worst volleyball they played all year, but they still dug deep and found a way. That’s what good teams do.
Oregon looked a different team in the 3rd set. Their star player, Alanah Clemente, came alive and got some key kills for the Ducks to give them life in the match. The Huskers know how to respond in these situations because their lineup is full of vets and can handle this kind of adversity.
The Huskers hit that ever so sweet red zone, 20 points, and never looked back from there. Oregon did everything they could with their late push, but the Huskers tightened their defense up and closed out the match to get the 3-0 sweep.
The Huskers hit above .350% in every set tonight, finishing the match hitting .425%, all while holding Oregon to hitting .152% Oregon’s star, and reigning B1G Freshman of the Year, Alanah Clemente was held to hitting .282% and also had 5 errors.
Teraya Sigler and Harper Murray both led the team in kills with 14 each, but Murray had only 1 error to hit .481%. Sigler had 3 errors and hit .458%. Virginia Adriano was right behind them with 11 kills, hitting .500%. Andi Jackson had 9 of her own kills as well.
Bergen Reilly and Manaia Ogbechie closed out the stat sheet with 3 and 2 kills, respectively. Murray and Jackson led the team in blocks with both of them getting 3 in the match. Sigler was the only player with a solo block tonight for the Huskers. Extended stats are available below.
Nebraska will now travel to Seattle tonight and will have a quick turnaround before tomorrow’s match at Washington. Tomorrow’s match will begin at 5:30pm CST at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle, WA. The match will be televised on FS1.
