After a tough game from the offense on Friday night, the Braves were hoping for another good start from Grant Holmes to help tie the series.
Things started very well for Atlanta, as Ronald Acuna did his thing and led the home first off with an absolute bomb to dead center. Baldwin roped a double and an Olson bloop and a Harris groundout brought him home for a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Arizona tied things up on a walk, a double, and a single, as another soft single gave them a 3-2 lead. Lane Thomas gave the back of Atlanta’s lineup a chance to strike back with a leadoff double in the second, but Austin, Sean, and Ronald came up empty. Another two doubles tacked on another run for the D-Backs, before an Arenado homer brought another two around for a commanding 6-2 lead in the third. Two walks with two outs in the fourth ended a disappointing outing from Holmes, as Mederos took over out of the pen and was able to escape the inning. After 1.1 innings from Mederos and a whole lot of nothing from the offense, Brett Suter allowed a solo homer to Arenado in his second inning of work. Suter ended up covering 3.0 innings, which were pretty huge on a night when Holmes was only able to cover 3.2. Danny Young was the final reliever out of the pen and he allowed a 3-run shot in the ninth, as his performance continues to call into question his spot on the roster. Preserving the quality arms in the pen is a silver lining for this otherwise painful game for Atlanta. Perhaps the short start will finally force the Braves to replace Danny Young. Matt Olson doubled and scored a meaningless run in the ninth to finish a 10-3 game.
