Mexico announce the final three friendly matches to be played before their participation in the World Cup. Mexico will face off against Ghana, Australia before closing out their preparations against Serbia. Mexico will start their final preparations by facing off against Ghana on May 22nd in Puebla. Eight days later they will travel to Los Angeles to face off against Australia. A week before the the World Cup starts, they will be facing off in Mexico against Serbia although there is no news yet on the venue.
As hosts of the World Cup, Mexico will go into the tournament with an extremely plentiful preparation. After next week’s non FIFA date friendly against Iceland, Mexico will go to the March FIFA Date with two huge matches. Mexico will host Portugal in the opener of Estadio Azteca post refurbishment on March 28th. Three days later they will travel to Chicago to face off against Belgium on March 31st. Those two matches seem to be by far the toughest tests they will be playing prior to the tournament. Mexico will then not have action until May 22nd when they announced the will face off against Ghana in Estadio Cuauhtemoc, Puebla. Mexico will be in the middle of their training camp for the tournament but although they might have some European based players, it might be mostly a Liga MX side available for that match. On May 3oth Mexico will face off against Australia in the Rose Bowl. This match would be the final tune up in the United States. Finally Mexico will close out their preparations against Serbia on June 4th, a week before their World Cup opener against South Africa. While there are no news yet on the venue, strong rumors indicate it will possibly be played in the Estadio Nemesio Diez in Toluca.
The final matchups will be the final preparations for the World Cup and look to be tests guided to the World Cup. Mexico will be facing and CAF side, an AFC side and close out with an UEFA side just like in the World Cup. That being said they don’t look as that similar sides with Ghana being a more physical team than South Africa. Australia doesn’t look at all like South Korea although that match is the least likely to need a test as nothing comes close to the fact that they faced the Koreans in September (a match that ended with a 2-2 score). The Serbia match is also a tough test to know as Mexico will not know who they face until March, after the last UEFA playoff. Still the preparation looks good as they are three solid teams that also poise less of a challenge than their opposition in March but enough to do the job of being a good opponent to help Mexico have a good participation in the World Cup.
