Did Skyy Moore just save the Green Bay Packers’ season?
The premise of the question is a bit absurd, yes. Short of catastrophic injuries, the result of one play is almost never the difference between a single win or loss, let alone the trajectory of an entire season. But Moore’s 63-yard punt return in the fourth quarter on Sunday put the Green Bay Packers in position to tie the game even if they didn’t gain a single yard.
And it’s a good thing, too, because the offense only picked up three.
Moore’s
return, with the Jets leading 17-14, was just one key play in the Packers’ comeback from being down by 10 points in the fourth quarter, but it might well have been the most important. The defense largely did its job all day long, save for one two drives when the Jets picked on cornerbacks Keisean Nixon and Brandon Cisse. But in the fourth quarter (and eventually in overtime), the defense locked down Geno Smith and company, getting sack contributions from five different players, most notably getting to Smith on back-to-back plays to start the extra frame.
The Packers were sloppy, to be sure. The Jets were sloppy too. But the defense and special teams helped pick up an offense that again was struggling on the offensive line, though this time due in large part to injuries rather than an abysmal game plan.
Comebacks take a village. In the 4th quarter and OT, the Packers rallied together and did just enough to avoid starting the season 0-2. Thank goodness.

Lukas Van Ness’ breakout game was probably last year’s Ravens game, but this will probably be the one that fans remember because it ended in a memorable victory. He’s now up to 2.5 sacks on the season and is showing why the Packers had faith in him to continue developing.
Packers’ Less-Is-More Gamble at Receiver Backfires After Jayden Reed Injury | SI.com
The team’s receiver depth will certainly be tested by this injury, but the doom and gloom of the headline seems a bit overblown. Bet on the Packers leaning even more heavily into 12 and 13 personnel, which will lessen the blow of not having their top slot receiver.
Week 2 impact on the NFC: Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels hurt | ESPNThe severity of Williams’ injury has yet to be determined, but if his initial reaction is any indication, don’t expect him to play against the Packers in Week 5.
