It’s the dregs of the Seattle Seahawks offseason. We’re twiddling our thumbs, biding our time, and checking our watches until the next interesting thing happens. In all likelihood, we’re looking at mid-May for the preseason and regular season schedule release, so it won’t be too agonizing a wait.
In the meantime, let’s have a fun discussion! What is your most favorite Seahawks comeback win? I’m sure there’s one very recent game that will be a popular answer…
For the purpose of this discussion, a comeback should imply unlikely/improbable chances to win a game based on the score and/or time. Which means that this…
…is not some amazing comeback win even though it had an amazing ending.
But this…
…is an amazing comeback win because it was about as bleak as it could possibly get given 12-point deficits with only a timeout remaining aren’t usually overcome with such little time on the clock.
I’ll admit to recency bias in saying that the Seahawks’ astonishing win over the Los Angeles Rams is now my new favorite comeback in franchise history. While it’s not impossible, I don’t think the Seahawks would be Super Bowl champions. Seattle had never come back from more than 14 points in the fourth quarter ever. From 30-14 down with eight minutes left, Rashid Shaheed’s punt return TD started the rally, and Eric Saubert’s grab from Sam Darnold’s coolly delivered goal-line pass flipped the NFC West and No. 1 seed in Seattle’s favor for good.
If I’m not allowed to use that game, then it has to be the NFC Championship over the Green Bay Packers. The passing offense was truly atrocious all afternoon until it wasn’t. Seattle had seven points (off a Jon Ryan fake field goal TD to Garry Gilliam!) in 58 minutes and somehow ended the game with 28 points and a trip to the Super Bowl. Nothing felt more poetic than Russell Wilson and Jermaine Kearse combining for the winning score given how badly both men struggled throughout the game. Bonus points for the fact that it happened to Aaron Rodgers.
