Gunther “killed” AJ Styles’ career and sent him off into retirement at Royal Rumble back in February, and the Phenomenal One has already been enshrined in the WWE Hall of Fame and taken a job in the company’s developmental program.
But he’s also a very fit 49-year-old who clearly went out while still not-far from the top of his game, and he’s got a 19-year-old son swimming with the proverbial sharks in the independent wrestling world (Avery Styles is staying active on the independents even with his recently
announced TNA contract). So while it’s too early to tell if AJ’s Rumble loss to Der Ring General will become another “final” match that wasn’t so final (he’s said he’s open to working with Avery on a big stage should the opportunity arise) the elder Styles did get physical during a run-in at an Atlanta Wrestling Entertainment show this past weekend.
AJ takes out the heels* who had numbers on his son, and even sets up for a Styles Clash before the bad guy slips free at the last second.
Seems like it could be a set-up for more… could a father-and-son tag match be happening sooner than we’d thought?
Let us know if you think that sounds Phenomenal in the comments below.
* I’m guessing, but confidently.
