Newcastle United are confident of completing a deal for Osasuna winger Victor Munoz.
The Magpies have been exploring different options to replace the departed Anthony Gordon, who joined Barcelona for £69 million leaving Newcastle in the market for another wide forward.
Munoz emerged as one of the club’s top targets, albeit a bit unrealistic given the continent-wide interest in the youngster, but now talks are already taking place with Osasuna, and both sides could be on the verge of an agreement.
BBC
Sport reported that Newcastle are in discussions for the 22-year-old Spain international, though no agreement has been reached yet. Munoz has a €40 million release clause, worth around £34.5 million.
Fabrizio Romano has now reported that Newcastle have sent an official bid and are optimistic of completing the deal quickly.
“Newcastle, confident to seal Victor Munoz deal very soon for package over €30m after official bid sent today,” Romano wrote on X.
Romano also noted Real Madrid’s possession of a 50% sell-on clause on top of a buy-back clause, but he reported on Friday morning that the club is not expected to activate it, instead letting the player go to NUFC while bagging half the fee themselves.
“Real Madrid will NOT activate the buy back clause for Víctor Munoz as Newcastle are confident to get deal done after bid sent yesterday,” Romano wrote. “Real will receive 50% of the deal, over €17m.
Munoz is currently with Spain as part of the 2026 World Cup squad named by Luis de la Fuente, with the nation scheduled to open their tournament against Cape Verde in Atlanta on Monday.
Munoz scored six goals and assisted on two more in La Liga last season and is viewed as a young, high-upside attacker who fits Newcastle’s recruiting plans.
Newcastle have already signed goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen from Reims and are trying to move earlier than last summer, when major business dragged into the final stages of the window and disrupted the whole season.
