Newcastle United are preparing a move to sign Alexander Sorloth in 2026 as they continue searching for a reliable striker to replace Alexander Isak’s goal output.
Reports from Spain claim the club is readying an offer worth around €50 million (£44 million) for the Atletico Madrid forward, who has struggled for consistent starts this season.
The move follows Newcastle’s underwhelming start in front of goal, with just six Premier League goals so far — fewer than all but two teams in the division. Eddie Howe, while not panicking, acknowledged earlier in the season that the team is “just missing that X-factor.” He added that Newcastle have “got things to learn about each other and formulas to try and generate that we know will work.”
Sorloth, 29, caught Newcastle’s attention when scouts watched him score against Real Madrid in Atletico’s 5–2 win, a reminder of his pedigree in La Liga after last season’s record-setting hat-trick against Real Sociedad. Diego Simeone praised him after that performance, saying, “Alex, of course, is a whole different matter. He had a fantastic night, especially those first 45 minutes, where he decisively finished every ball that came his way.”
Whether Atletico allow him to leave remains uncertain, but Newcastle’s need for another proven finisher is clear. The Norwegian striker’s power, aerial strength, and improved consistency make him a logical target, and his previous Premier League experience with Crystal Palace gives him unfinished business in England.
