Are you ready for winter silly season? Because it’s here already. The window opens January 1 and Liverpool continue to be linked with Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo, although reports are conflicting on how serious their intent to sign in January may be.
Semenyo has also piqued the interest of both Manchester City and United, Chelsea, and Tottenham, with Manchester City seen as the favorites to secure the winger’s signature, but reports from The Mail (a reliable City reporter) and The Telegraph
allege that Liverpool are potentially lining up an offer of their own.
The links to Semenyo are not new, with Bournemouth only asking for £65 million to release the player, but by all appearances the Ghanaian international plans to move to the Etihad – unless former Bournemouth player and technical director Richard Hughes has anything to say about it. Hughes worked to sign Semenyo for Bournemouth back in 2023 from Bristol so is very familiar with the wingers’ abilities and what he can bring to a team. Especially one like Liverpool that appears to be struggling without a true left winger after selling Luis Diaz in the summer. Semenyo himself has scored nine times in the Premier League this year, something that certainly couldn’t hurt this Liverpool side.
On the other side of the coin, TalkSports’ Ben Jacobs claims that Liverpool do not intend to go for Semenyo in January and prefer the summer window to add the winger to their roster.
As of now, December 28th, the only really reliable Liverpool source came from Paul Joyce earlier in the week, with Joyce reporting that the interest is real but the intent is a little more unclear. There is a very high chance that the clubs are using competing interests to drive negotiations, especially with that concrete City interest involved, so the waters have unfortunately gotten slightly murkier rather than clearer as we move closer to the opening of the window.
