It has been known from Matt Rhule’s beginning that quantifiable speed and athleticism is extremely valued when his staff decides to offer an athlete to play football at Nebraska.
This past week Maurice Purify II, the son of Maurice Purify a former Nebraska wide receiver, started getting some traction after his performance on the track. He is currently the state leader in the long jump. Here is a clip:
Matt Rhule has been watching this one closely and it was announced today that Maurice Purify II will be a late addition to the 2026 recruiting class. He is a 6’4” wide receiver who is the type of athlete that Matt Rhule is always looking to add to his program.
Last season at Omaha Westside he lead the team in receiving yards (589) and receiving touchdowns (10).
You will not be impressed with his offer list but this is one of those kids that Matt Rhule simply thinks he can turn into a great football player. In their mind they cannot coach athleticism but they can take a great athlete and turn him into a good football player.
For those who do not remember, his father caught the game winning touchdown pass in 2006 against Texas Tech which would send Nebraska to the Big 12 Championship game.
