Diego Lopes isn’t going to be running any races over the next few weeks, but it appears the injuries suffered at UFC 325 are not as bad as he thought they were.
Lopes was on the wrong end of a lopsided
unanimous decision to Alexander Volkanovski in a championship rematch this past Saturday in Sydney, Australia. Following the defeat, Lopes’ manager Jason House shared a post that stated Lopes may have broken both feet in the fight.
Several hours later, Lopes clarified the situation on his Instagram Stories.
“Everything is fine,” Lopes wrote. “The initial diagnosis at arena was that I might have broken both feet. We went to the hospital, they ran tests and everything was fine—just some fractures in both feet but surgery isn’t necessary.
“I’ll be using boots and crutches for a few weeks.”
There’s no timetable on his return to action.
The 31-year-old Lopes dropped a pair of decisions to Volkanovski over the past 10 months, but did have a wild knockout win over Jean Silva sandwiched in the middle in the main event of Noche UFC this past September — earning a rare double bonus for his efforts. One of the most exciting and popular fighters in the division, Lopes is now 6-3 in the promotion, and has earned seven overall post-fight bonuses for his efforts.
