WWE’s WrestleMania 43 is going to Saudi Arabia in 2027, and a lot of fans are pissed off about WWE selling out to the Saudi government.
One negative consequence of WWE’s disgusting business deal with Saudi Arabia is that could mean there is no collective of independent shows that flock to the location of WrestleMania that year. Can AEW President Tony Khan step in and still make something like that happen by running a huge AEW event in the USA at the same time as Saudi WrestleMania?
That’s essentially
what Khan was asked by Jason Powell on a call with the media today to promote this weekend’s All Out pay-per-view. Let’s check out Khan’s response.
Powell: “There’s been a lot of fan discussion about the possibility of you maybe running a big event in the spring of 2027 with WrestleMania taking place in Saudi Arabia. The idea is that a lot of the independent groups that normally run ‘Mania weekend would be able to run shows based around your big event. Are you interested in doing something like that?”
Khan: “I have a lot of interest in it, and I can promise we’re gonna run a huge event in the spring of 2027. I think spring 2027 is gonna be a great time for AEW. We’re still gonna be in the peak of this massive media deal that we’ve done with Warner Bros. Discovery…
And absolutely, there’s gonna be a huge pay-per-view, for sure. And one pay-per-view I can tell you is gonna be huge in spring of 2027, that has done huge things for us in AEW, and I think some really historic things in pro wrestling, is AEW Revolution. We’ll have a huge Revolution. The event’s already done some major things when you look back.”
Khan rambled on for a long while about how much he loved Sting’s retirement match at Revolution 2024. Then he got back to addressing the question at hand.
Khan: “…and absolutely. People ask about the spring of 2027. I can promise we’ll have a huge AEW Revolution, and a lot of big plans for then. And obviously very focused right now on 2025. That’s looking very far ahead, but there’s definitely potential for us to do some big thing in the spring of 2027.”
The previous six AEW Revolution events have taken place on dates ranging from Feb. 29 to March 9. That’s well before WrestleMania, which seems to be trending towards dates in mid-April. If anything, AEW Dynasty is Khan’s PPV that runs closest to WrestleMania, as it has taken place in April since its inception in 2024.
With that in mind, it seems to me that Khan just took this opportunity to hype up AEW Revolution without revealing his actual strategy (if there is one this early) for how AEW will respond to WrestleMania 43 being in Saudi Arabia in 2027.
What do you make of Khan’s promise to run a huge AEW event in spring 2027 around the time WWE is doing WrestleMania in Saudi Arabia? Let me know in the comments below, Cagesiders.
