The Syracuse Orange (3-6, 1-5) head south to face the #18 Miami Hurricanes (6-2, 2-2) tomorrow at Hard Rock Stadium. Miami is favored by 28.5 points on FanDuel. The game is scheduled to kick off at 3:30
and Bob Wischusen, Louis Riddick, and Kris Budden will have the call on ESPN. Here’s what we’re predicting for tomorrow:
Kevin (6-3): Miami 34, Syracuse 10
I don’t see how the Orange win the battle in the trenches in this one. Miami’s going to dominate the line of scrimmage and let their running game do most of the work in this one. I’d expect that this one is a three-score game at halftime, but Rickie Collins gets the offense moving in the second half to get some points on the board. The one positive for the Orange will be the defense getting two picks on Carson Beck and leaving Canes fans lamenting picking him over Mendoza or Mensah in the portal.
Dom (6-3): Miami 41, Syracuse 7
All (writer’s note: most) pro-Miami bias aside. Syracuse is catching The U at the “right time.” The ‘Canes are coming off losses in two of their last three. But, those were each by one score and to opponents who are each top-five in the conference standings. Miami just has too much talent across the board, even if Beck will shoot Miami in the foot once (and probably two or three times). Unless the Orange’s offense can really execute some trickery, get a few PI calls or good field position, where is the scoring coming from against this Miami front? There is no way Miami’s coaching staff can mess this up, right? Right?!
Casey (5-3): Miami 42, Syracuse 3
Miami is coming off a close loss and will be playing inspired football — they know they need to be perfect the rest of the way to stay in the conversation. For Syracuse, things just keep getting worse. Last week’s lifeless offensive performance wiped out whatever hope fans had left and officially shifted attention to basketball season. I just don’t see how this offense finds the end zone unless something completely changed in practice this week. The defense might hang in early, but once the energy fades, Miami’s talent and depth will take over. Expect the Canes to pull away big in the second half.
Max (7-1): Miami 42, Syracuse 10
It’s hard to believe these two teams were on equal playing fields less than a year ago. While the Hurricanes slipped up to SMU last week and put their CFP hopes in jeopardy, Carson Beck and company will get back on track against a struggling Orange offense. One touchdown is honestly the ceiling for SU, which will lose its sixth straight and put the nail in the coffin on our Go Bowling Military Bowl O’Meter.
