One of the hallmarks of the 2025 Cubs was the absence of long streaks. Their longest winning streak in 2025 was five games. The longest losing streak was also five games. It was an extremely level team from start to finish as they built a 92-70 record, which was good for a second place finish in the National League Central and the first Wild Card spot.
Let’s get the losing streak out of the way first. It was a five game stretch from September 18 to September 23 when the Cubs were swept in a four-game series by the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park before dropping the series opener against the Mets at Wrigley Field. Cubs fans were a bit anxious to see their team falter so close to the end of the season, but the team finished strong enough winning four of their last five games before the playoffs began. Michael Busch hit his 30th home run during this streak [VIDEO].
Now on to happier streaks. While the Cubs opened their season dropping both games in the Tokyo Series against the Dodgers, they righted the ship quickly. By the end of March they would start their longest winning streak of the season, five games. First, they swept a three-game series against the Athletics at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento before taking the first two games against the Padres in San Diego.
The offensive juggernaut that is Sutter Health Park is certainly a storyline to keep an eye on heading into 2026. The Cubs were the first beneficiaries of that park’s largess, but it persisted throughout the season. Admittedly, we generally use three-year park effects to smooth out one-year aberrations. However, since we only have one year of data on the Athletics’ temporary home as they attempt to relocate to Las Vegas, it’s worth noting that Sutter Health Park played second only to Coors Field according to Statcast single year park factors, with an overall rating of 108 to Coors Field’s 115. The Cubs got a hint of what that looked like as they scored 18 runs against the A’s on March 31st [VIDEO].
Carson Kelly, of course, became the first Cub to hit for the cycle in 32 years in that first game in Sacramento.
