Seattle Seahawks fans were asked to predict how many touchdowns Super Bowl winning quarterback Sam Darnold would throw throughout the 2026 season, combining the regular season and playoffs! No easy task, but the fans of the Seahawks are smart folks, and were up to the task! The
results are as follows.
As you can see, 66% of fans believe that Darnold will throw somewhere between 31-39 touchdowns. This makes sense to me. In 2024, in both the regular season and playoffs, he threw a combined 36 touchdowns. In 2025, he threw 30 touchdown passes. That averages out to 33 touchdowns, which is right in that sweet spot of where the majority of fans believe he will be.
Seven percent of fans think he will repeat what he did in 2025 and throw exactly 30 touchdowns. With the Seahawks wanting to be a run first, throw second, old school ground and pound offense, I can get that. Also, with keeping most of the offensive staff and players from last season, a repeat performance could be in the works, with hopefully less turnovers. I would argue, though, that being with the same team, and the same offensive scheme, Darnold could build upon last years success, cut down on the turnovers, and potentially put up similar numbers as he did in Minnesota.
The 15% of fans that believe Darnold will only throw 20-29 touchdown passes is interesting to me. He only threw that few in a complete season once back in his USC days, throwing for 26 touchdowns in 2017. He threw fewer than 20 touchdowns early in his career, that was partially due to not playing a complete season, playing only 13 of 16 games in his first two seasons with the Jets, then playing 12 games the next two seasons. When he has had the chance to play a complete season in the NFL, he has thrown for a minimum of 30 touchdowns.
Then there are those 12% of fans who believe that Darnold can throw for more than 40 touchdowns in 2026, and to those fans I have one thing to say: let’s do this! Now, Darnold averages about two touchdown passes per game over the last two years. In a 17 game season, that adds up to 34 touchdowns. If, lets say, the Seahawks have to play in the Wild Card round but make it all the way to the Super Bowl, that would be another eight touchdowns potentially, for a total of 42 touchdowns in 2026! That would be fun to see, and would make Douglas Adams proud indeed.
What do you think? Will Sam Darnold throw for more less than 31-39 touchdowns? What is your magic number of touchdowns you believe Darnold will throw this upcoming season? Debate down in the comments, and let’s keep running it forward!
