Real Madrid have officially completed the signing of midfielder Sergio Martinez from Racing Santander, the newly promoted club confirmed on Monday in a statement.
Martinez will join Real Madrid after the club paid his release clause in a single instalment.
Here is the official statement from Racing:
“Racing Santander and Real Madrid CF have reached an agreement for the transfer of Sergio Martínez. The Madrid club has committed to paying, in a single instalment, the full amount stipulated in the buyout
clause of the contract that bound Real Racing Club to the player. As a result, the player from Laredo leaves the Racing squad.
From Racing Santander, the club Sergio has been with since the age of 10 and where he has risen through the ranks from the Under-12 B team to the first team (with which he has played 15 matches), we wish the player all the success he deserves in his future professional and personal endeavours.
Good luck, Sergio! We are very proud of your progress at our club and how you have defended the badge all these years. The Campos de Sport de El Sardinero will always be your home.”
Martinez, per reports, will initially join Castilla, with a view to eventually playing for the first team. It will be interesting to track his development over the course of the next couple of seasons.
