Captain Joshua Kimmich is known for several things — his mentality, his work rate and most importantly, his passing. Statistics like pass completion rate and pass accuracy genuinely make Kimmich look like a phenomenal midfielder. While he may not be phenomenal, he is still a solid, reliable midfielder and right-back.
For Germany, Kimmich almost always plays right-back, a position he had long abandoned at club level. Once touted Lahm’s rightful successor, the 31-year-old may not have lived up to such
hype, but is nonetheless the best option the national team has.
In Germany’s 7-1 demolition of Curaçao in their opener World Cup fixture, Kimmich was one of the best players from an attacking standpoint. On the defensive side of things, Kimmich was unfortunately the primary reason Curaçao managed to score their one goal.
However, the rest of his performance made up for it, as he played a key role in the goals scored. Per @iMiaSanMia, no player has made more key passes than Kimmich at the World Cup so far. The right-back made five key passes in the game, with two of those being assists. He assisted both Deniz Undav and Jamal Musiala’s goals.
Hopefully, Kimmich continues a string of excellent performances for the team.
