Reports of low ticket sales for WWE’s upcoming SummerSlam has become a major talking point in the wrestling world in recent weeks, and AJ Styles has now weighed in with a simple solution: Make some of the seats available “dirt cheap.”
According to the most recent information available from WrestleTix, 27,275 tickets have been distributed for night one of the event on August 1st. The venue, U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, is reportedly set up to seat 31,264 fans for the night in question, which leaves
3,175 seats still available.
For night two on August 2nd, 26,811 tickets have been distributed, per WrestleTix. The stadium is set up to hold 31,425 for that night, leaving 3,800 tickets still available.
Speaking on his The Phenomenally Retro Podcast, Styles reacted to the reports of low ticket sales for the two-day Premium Live Event (PLE).
At the time of the podcast’s recording, WrestleTix’s estimates were around 22,000 tickets sold for each day.
“Well, it doesn’t sound like they’re doing very well, but it is 20,000 people. That is a lot as well,” Styles acknowledged. “Again, it is not a sellout. So, is this being successful? I don’t know.”
Even without being a sellout, he pointed out that WWE/TKO is “going to make money on this regardless,” and he added that more tickets will be sold in the days leading up to the event.
When his podcast co-host Tony Giles asked why he thinks the sales are so low, Styles didn’t hold back with his opinion.
“Well, I don’t know how much the tickets are, but they haven’t been known to be cheap,” the WWE Hall of Famer replied. “Even the nosebleeds are a little expensive. So, I think that might have something to do with it.”
Continuing on about the nosebleeds, i.e. the furthest back and cheapest seats, Style said: “I would say, when you get the nosebleeds, let’s make them freaking cheap, dirt cheap. Sell a bunch of those. And why not? Let’s sell all these seats we can.”
He added: “Maybe that’s something as we get closer, that’ll happen. Who knows?”
