They’ve experienced a slight dip in Bundesliga form to start off 2026, but Bayern Munich are still well within their rights to keep dreaming about securing another historic treble this season. They’re
still first in the league table with a six-point lead over Borussia Dortmund, onto the round of 16 of the Champions League, and in the quarterfinals of the DFB-Pokal, a competition in which they’ve failed to reach the final in Berlin since July of 2020.
The recent draw to Hamburger SV and loss to FC Augsburg certainly do not paint a proper picture for how the season has gone overall for the German Rekordmeister, but are still a cause for concern for Vincent Kompany. Nonetheless, with most of the evidence on display from the season as a whole, there’s no reason to suggest that Bayern won’t bounce back into the win column in emphatic fashion and string together another solid run of form.
Jonathan Tah has been a key piece in Bayern’s back line, having joined from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer and the German international has formed a formidable partnership with Dayot Upamecano and the heart of the defense. Thankfully for Bayern, they’ll now be pairing up a lot more together with Upamecano’s contract extension, but there’s still lots of football left to be played this season.
Tah was recently asked whether or not the players in the Bayern squad actively speak about the fact that a treble is still in the cards. While they’re all more than well aware of that very fact, Tah explained that it’s just focus on winning matches and winning silverware more so than thinking too far ahead. “Being successful and winning titles is always a topic – it’s always present. In every training session, in every small tournament we play in training. Everyone wants to win. Therefore, it’s also true that we want to compete for the big titles and be successful. But we don’t talk about it. Rather, we know that we can beat any opponent and we try to be successful. In the end, we’ll see if we win those titles. I believe that everything is possible for us this season,” Tah explained (via @iMiaSanMia).
Dropped points here and there in the Bundesliga can sway things drastically as Bayern and Dortmund saw last weekend with the former’s draw at HSV and the latter’s win vs. Union Berlin. Not to mention, there’s little margin for error in the Champions League and Pokal at this point since they’re in knockout stages. Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck had recently sent a warning to Bayern to say that they’ll be breathing down the reigning Bundesliga champion’s necks and the same will go for Bayern’s opponents in the DFB-Pokal and Champions League.
