Happy Friday!
If you were in the San Antonio area, you know Benson Boone played at the Frost Bank Center (home of the Spurs) last night. Last night was also coincidentally my sixteenth wedding anniversary, so naturally my wife was at the Benson Boone concert…with my daughter…while I attended my daughter’s middle school volleyball parent information session. But, hey, I can’t complain. The last time I was in the Frost Bank Center, the Spurs ended their season as Western Conference Champions. After
returning to the Finals for the first time in twelve years (ahead of what many predicted), they did eventually concede the championship to the New York Knickerbockers. This season the Spurs are looking to take another leap.
Spurs star Victor Wembanyama spent his offseason engulfed in a variety of adventures. Currently, VW is in France played with the French national team. Yesterday they played a friendly exhibition game against the Serbian team whose led by Nikola Jokic. The team’s newly appointed captain struggled in his first game as. Serbia won 90-87.
Afterward, Jokic was asked about playing against Wemby, if he prepared for these the games differently, and if he saw Victor as a rival.
It should come as no surprise that when asked about Wembanyama, Nikola Jokic had something great to say. Jokic, a highly regarded superstar, is known for playing with very little ego. His respect for Wembanyama comes from a solid mix of his own introspection and basketball IQ. While subtle, I think Jokic said a lot with few words.
