All the latest news and rumors regarding the Houston Astros and from around MLB – It’s in here! The off-season Crawfish Boil for December 14, 2025
- Take another starting pitcher off the market.
Kelly, entering his age-37 season, finished 2025 12-9, 3.52 ERA and 1.114 WHIP between Arizona and Texas last season.
- Are the Astros essentially out on Brendan Donovan?
Woo also reports that the Giants and Mariners are both in discussion with the Diamondbacks on 2B Ketel Marte, the Red Sox are interested in Cardinals’ 1B Willson Contreras (who was drawing interest from Mets before they signed Jorge Polanco) and that the Cardinals are still trying to find a suitor for 3B Nolan Arenado with no success thus far.
- The Mets signed 2B Jorge Polanco – to play 1B?
The deal is reported at 2 years, $40M, and the team said Polanco would play primarily 1B and DH. Polanco has played 12 years in MLB with 0.00 innings at 1B. He does have experience at all 3 other IF spots, with 2B and 3B being his best positions.
- The Brewers and Royals made a trade:
Zerpa appeared in 69 games for Royals last season, going 5-2 with a 4.18 ERA and 1.376 WHIP.
Collins finished 4th in ROY voting last year for Brewers, hitting .263 with a .368 OBP and .779 OPS. He finished the season with 9 HR and 54 RBI, he also stole 16 bases.
Mears made 63 appearances for Milwaukee last season, going 5-3, 3.49 ERA and 0.971 WHIP.
- The Cardinals signed SP Dustin May.
May missed the 2024 season recovering from Tommy John surgery and from surgery for an esophageal tear. He went a combined 7-11 in 2025 for the Dodgers and Red Sox with a 4.96 ERA and 1.421 WHIP in 25 games, including 23 starts. He is entering his age-28 season.
- Workhorse leverage reliever Tyler Rogers signed North of the Border.
Rogers was 4-6 with a 1.98 ERA and 0.944 WHIP while splitting time between the Giants and Mets last season. He made a league high 81 appearances, the second straight season he led the NL in appearances and 4th time he has led the NL in appearances since 2020.
- Kenley Jansen is joining the Tigers.
While no longer the dominant strikeout machine he was in his heydey, Jansen was 5-4 with 29 saves, a very respectable 2.59 ERA and impressive 0.949 WHIP in his age-37 season. Jansen is 24 saves shy of 500 for his career, a number that would certainly be a boon to his Hall of Fame candidacy when his career is over. It’s a 1 year deal for $11M.
- The Yankees are bringing back UT Amed Rosario.
While Rosario has never reached the lofty expectations once set upon him by the Mets when he was first called up in 2017, Rosario has proven to be a very useful player with the versatility to play 2B, SS, 3B, and all 3 OF positions. Rosario batted a combined .276 last season between the Nationals and Yankees, with a .309 OBP and .745 OPS. He finished the season with 6 HR and 23 RBI in 181 AB. He will likely platoon at 3B with Ryan McMahon.
- Are the Mets and Padres working on a deal?
Sammon reported names that have been discussed include Nick Pivetta, Ramón Laureano, Mason Miller, Adrian Morejon and Jeremiah Estrada. Fernando Tatis Jr. has not been discussed, per the report, nor has Mets SS Francisco Lindor.
- Rangers add three players: C Danny Jansen, LHP Tyler Anderson and RHP Alexis Diaz.
