The Carolina Hurricanes improved their record to 5-1-1 with a 4-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday night at Xfinity Mobile Arena. That gave the Canes their fifth win in a row and propelled them to the best record in the NHL, (as of this publication).
The Hurricanes outshot their opponents in every period and finished with a 30-19 advantage. Goalie Pyotr Kochetkov made 18 saves on the 19 shots he faced and improved his record to 3-0-0 for the season.
After a scoreless first period, the Canes
started cooking in the second. Andrei Svechnikov got things started with a perfectly placed shot midway through the period.
Three minutes later, Sebastian Aho made a beautiful blind pass to Shayne Gostisbehere who rifled in a shot to make it 2-0.
Christian Dvorak tipped a shot past Kochetkov but that would be the end of the scoring for the home team.
Aho would blast in a shot before the end of the period to make it 3-1. William Carrier made a nice feed to Aho for the score.
Mark Jankowski kept his scoring streak going with a goal 15 minutes into the third. That makes four games in a row with a goal for the center.
Speaking of Jankowski, he filled in for Captain, Jordan Staal who sat out this game because of an undisclosed injury.
There are several players on the team who are hot and are racking up some points.
Aho has 11 points, (6G 5A). His six goals are tied for tops in the league.
