The Detroit Lions announced on Thursday the beginning of a new ticketing option for fans. In short, the Lions are setting apart a pool of standing-room only tickets available only to purchase on-site on the same day of upcoming Lions home games.
Here are the full details, as provided by an official statement from the team (I have highlighted the key notes):
- Four hours prior to the announced kickoff time, Gate D East checkpoint opens and guests (must be physically present and subject to availability) will receive numbered wristbands, these wristbands indicate the ability to purchase the $60 standing room only tickets
- Once all wristbands have been distributed, those guests can be screened and enter through Gate D. Ticket purchases will be processed and scanned immediately after purchase
- Once sold out, all other guests will be notified, and the limited standing room ticket program will conclude
As of now, the Lions will be offering a minimum of 100 of these tickets per game, with a limit of four per person. The tickets are non-transferrable.
This program kicks off for Detroit’s next home game this season: their Week 7 contest against the Green Bay Packers on October 25.
In the future, the Lions hope to expand this program beyond just standing-room only tickets to include actual seats to the game.
Here’s what new Lions president and CEO Rich. Haddad has to say about the program.
“This program is for our fans and our community. It’s another way we can recognize the energy and support we receive all year long. We are excited to expand access to our games and give more fans the opportunity to experience Ford Field and contribute to the best home field advantage in the NFL.”
While it’s only a limited amount of tickets, it’s a neat option for die-hard fans to get into Ford Field during an era in which Lions tickets are becoming less and less affordable and tougher and tougher to acquire.
