Bayern Munich recently showed their interest in signing Nico Schlotterbeck from Borussia Dortmund (read here), but it looks like the club was interested in the German talent way before this.
Three years
ago, prior to putting on Dortmund’s yellow and black, Schlotterbeck was actually a player for SC Freiburg after coming through their youth system. Even though he was only there for a couple years before he made the move to BVB, he made an impact big enough for Bayern to notice.
Speaking to Sky Sport, in an interview captured by @iMiaSanMia, Oliver Kahn spoke about Bayern’s interest in Schlotterbeck during his Freiburg years. “Yes, I remember. It was the time when he was still playing in Freiburg, and he had to make a decision. But because he was still very, very young, we decided on someone else,” he said.
Schlotterbeck, as the footballing world is well aware, developed into a very talented player for Borussia Dortmund and the German national team, and perhaps he would have been a good investment for Bayern Munich. However, with the kind of traction and criticism Bayern gets from the media, it was a sound decision made by the board back then, as Schlotterbeck probably would have had it rough if his performances dipped even slightly. Besides, the question of whether or not Nico Schlotterbeck would have even become that same player under Bayern is another story.
Bayern Munich is steamrolling into the weekend and is scorching hot.
Hotter than hot.
Blazing hot.
However you want to put it, the Bavarians are riding high and playing better than they have at point since 2020. This has truly been a fun ride to watch, but it is far from over. In the midst of all of that, we have a ton of news going on and a lot of it (hell, all of it) is positive at this stage.
Let’s get into all of it here. This is what we have on tap for this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show:
