Luis Figo has backed Real Madrid to overturn their deficit against Bayern Munich, despite acknowledging the scale of the challenge ahead.
Speaking at a Betfair event, the former Madrid winger addressed the uphill battle following the first leg defeat at the Bernabéu, but pointed to the club’s history in the competition as reason for optimism.
“Without a doubt, it’s a tough tie, and 1-2 is a difficult result to overturn,” Figo said. “But if there’s a team with the greatness and quality to do it, it’s Real
Madrid. Despite the result in the first leg, I believe they can reach the semifinals.”
Figo stressed that efficiency in front of goal will be decisive in Munich, especially given the need to chase the game away from home. He highlighted Vinícius Jr. and Kylian Mbappé as key figures who could tilt the tie in Madrid’s favor.
“In a match like this, being clinical is essential,” he explained. “If Vinícius and Mbappé are effective, it will be much easier to get a positive result. But it’s just as important to manage Bayern’s attacking strength—to avoid suffering too much and take control of the game as early as possible.”
The Portuguese legend also touched on Aurélien Tchouaméni’s absence through suspension, recognizing the impact it could have on Madrid’s balance while expressing confidence in the squad’s depth.
“It’s a notable absence because of what he gives the team,” Figo said. “But Real Madrid have options. Bellingham, for example, showed in the first leg that he can come in and make a difference. For me, he should always be on the pitch—it’s only logical.”
Figo also reserved praise for Bayern’s Michael Olise, who impressed in the first leg and remains a major threat heading into the return fixture.
“He had a fantastic game. His quality is incredible,” Figo said. “I really like him as a player. If he continues on this path, he can become a Ballon d’Or candidate. He’s a unique winger right now, and he has the level to play for any team in the world, including Real Madrid.”
