It’s another day of World Baseball Classic pool play, as two of the top teams are set to face off in Team USA and Team Mexico.
Mexico is 2-0 thus far, with an 8-2 win against Great Britain on Friday and a 16-0 blowout win over Brazil yesterday. The USA is also 2-0, with a 15-5 win over Brazil on Friday before a 9-1 win over Britain on Saturday. Both teams have yet to face Italy, as the USA will do so on Tuesday before Mexico faces them on Wednesday. All three of those squads are 2-0 with two games
to play, but only two of the three will move on.
Brewers second baseman Brice Turang returns to the lineup in the nine-hole after a solid showing in Team USA’s win over Brazil, in which he went 3-for-6 with a pair of doubles and four RBIs. It’s another star-studded lineup for the USA, as they’ll roll with the same lineup from that one. Paul Skenes is on the mound tonight.
Brewer shortstop Joey Ortiz will also bat ninth, though he’ll be on the opposite side as he starts for Mexico. Fellow major leaguers in the lineup include Jarren Duran (in right), Randy Arozarena (in left), Jonathan Aranda, Alejandro Kirk, Rowdy Tellez (at DH), Nacho Alvarez Jr., Nick Gonzales, and Alek Thomas (in center).
In other Pool B play, Great Britain took down Brazil by an 8-1 final, as Britain finishes pool play at 1-3 and Brazil finishes 0-4. Neither of those teams will move on. The aforementioned 2-0 Team Italy has the day off.
Here are the full lineups for tonight’s game. Team USA will be the home team, and Team Mexico will be the road team. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. CT on FOX.
