Robin Roefs: 6/10
Did well to come for some crosses and showed good decision making when he came out to clear a couple, no chance with any of the goals. Made a really good save early on when he tipped an effort over the bar.
Nordi Mukiele: 6/10
Despite the score line, Nordi was pretty solid at both right back and then centre back after Ballard’s departure.
Dan Ballard: 6/10
Not to blame for any of the goals and thought he had a good battle with Thiago.
Omar Alderete: 4/10
Comfortably Alderete’s worst game in a Sunderland shirt, his passing was erratic throughout and looked
like the busy schedule had caught up to him, typified when he jumped under a ball shortly before going off.
Trai Hume: 4/10
Never looked comfortable at left back tonight, with a lot of attacks coming down his side and Hume struggled to contain them.
Lutsharel Geertruida: 5/10
Mostly tidy in midfield but had a brain fart with a pass to Brentford in the lead up to the second goal.
Granit Xhaka (C): 5/10
Had a shot on target from a well placed free kick but didn’t catch it right and that summed up his night, technically did nothing wrong but struggled to influence the game.
Enzo Le Fee: 0/10
Was doing OK in midfield, although probably not close enough to Brobbey but that stupid penalty miss cost us the game. Can’t do that when the team are losing.
Chris Rigg: 4/10
Worked hard but thought he struggled today, wasn’t on the same wave length as Mukiele down the right and gave away a silly free kick on the edge of our own box.
Simon Adingra: 5/10
Put in one good cross in the first half but his best bit of work was just before he went off, laying the ball off for Le Fee to shoot just wide. Other than that though, he was very quiet and never threatened.
Brian Brobbey: 7/10
Really isolated tonight but caused the Brentford central defenders plenty of problems when we got it up to him.
Substitutes
Romaine Mundle: 4/10
Had a decent effort when he cut inside late on but has not been careful enough with the ball and caused dangerous counter attacks by giving it away cheaply.
Eliezer Mayenda: 6/10
Looked dangerous when he initially came on, with some dangerous runs down the channels and played a clever ball to Brobbey for the penalty.
Dan Neil: 6/10
Used the ball well when he came on, although the game was over at that point.
Dennis Cirkin: 6/10
Wasn’t on very long and we were already beaten but got up and down the line well.
Luke O’Nien: 6/10
Tidy on the ball and played a good ball up the line for Mundle to run onto.
Man of the Match: Brian Brobbey
I thought Brobbey was comfortably man of the match in a game that looked one too many for a lot of the squad. We didn’t get him involved enough but he was a real handful for the Brentford defence when we got him the ball, brought his team-mates into play well, held off the defence and won the penalty with good play in the box.
