Well, this is annoying. Friend of the blog, Thomas Grønnemark, world-renowned throw-in coach, who helped Liverpool break its 30-year title drought with his expertise, has now been snapped up by league-leaders Arsenal in an attempt to get them get the title over the line.
Grønnemark was with The Reds in a part-time consulting role for a few seasons under Jurgen Klopp, but was let go a few seasons back.
Now, Mikel Arteta, who never met a dead ball situation he didn’t like, is deciding that this is the
thing that will help his side finally win some silverware. And he might be right. I mean, he could also be good at set pieces and throw-ins, AND play good, attacking football. Or even just play good attacking football and probably not have to rely on gimmicks, but this is Arteta we’re talking about here.
That said, Grønnemark does have a good track record, and has helped some of the biggest clubs over recent years, including Ajax, Dortmund, and Danish Giants FC Midtjylland.
I’m not going to let this ruin my admiration of the former Liverpool coach. He will always be my patron saint of getting paid for something super niche which no one really understands or understands the value in. I wish him all the success, and I hope Arsenal fail miserably despite his best efforts.
Best of luck, Tommy Throw-in!
