Wednesday was a busy day for the Green Bay Packers, who had their only full practice of the week, will travel to Detroit and made some alterations to their 53-man roster. First of all, let’s get into the injuries.
Packers ruled out vs. Lions
- WR Jayden Reed
- WR Savion Williams
- DE Lukas Van Ness
- DT Karl Brooks
Earlier this week, Lions head coach Dan Campbell said that he believed that Jayden Reed would be suiting up for the Packers on Thanksgiving. That was wrong, as Reed remains on the injured reserve, working through his 21-day practice window, and has been ruled out on Wednesday.
The other three
Packers on this list were all able to finish the game against the Minnesota Vikings last week, but have been dealing with multi-week injuries. If this game weren’t on a short week, maybe the trio would have been able to play.
Packers ruled questionable vs. Lions
- WR Matthew Golden
- LB Quay Walker
- CB Keisean Nixon
- CB Nate Hobbs
None of these players is a surprise addition to this list. Matthew Golden, Quay Walker and Nate Hobbs were all out last week against the Vikings, while Keisean Nixon dropped out with a stinger in the first half.
Packers roster moves
Green Bay swapped around a bunch of players just to give them options for Thursday. The team released kicker Lucas Havrisik and brought up receiver Will Sheppard from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. Sheppard is a returner, so he should be able to fill in for Savion Williams there, but he also protects the team in a situation where Matthew Golden (questionable) can’t play, either, leaving the team with only four receivers against Detroit.
Remember, it’s going to be hard for Bo Melton to play on offense when the Packers are already banged up at cornerback with Keisean Nixon and Nate Hobbs.
The second set of roster moves that Green Bay made was elevating linebacker Jamon Johnson and safety Jaylin Simpson from the practice squad to the gameday roster. Last week, Johnson was elevated, Quay Walker missed the game with an injury and Johnson was still ruled a healthy scratch. We’ll have to see if the Packers actually make him an active player on Thursday.
