The Deacs have released the unofficial depth chart for their week 1 game against Akron, and it is—for the most part—what was expected.
On the offensive side, the only real surprises are at tackle. Tolu Olajide starting at left tackle and redshirt freshman Aidan Martin getting the start over redshirt junior George Steih, who started in 9 games last season, was pretty unexpected to me. Besides that, Clinton Richard and Oregon State transfer Ryan Berger both starting at guard was very expected, and either
Weber State transfer Will Way or Bucknell transfer John Ohnegian was always going to be the starter at center. The uncertainty at tight end and slot receiver is slightly unexpected, but there aren’t really any names in the skill position groups that are unanticipated. Gio Lopez, Ty Clarke III, and Carlos Hernandez were, of course, all locks from the get-go.
For the defense, there really aren’t any real surprises. The starters for every position outside of corner were basically known heading into fall camp, and it’s not that shocking to see FIU transfer Deuce Blades II and redshirt senior Ashaad Williams get the nod there. I am a little surprised that true freshman Somad Eadddy is listed as a back up and Georgia State transfer Bernard Causey III is no where to be found. Notably, 4-star freshman AJ Mark is also absent from the depth chart.
Keep in mind that this is the “unofficial” depth chart for a reason, and coaches often use these for misdirection and misinformation—anything to get an advantage.
