The bout between LA Knight and Roman Reigns at Saturday’s Money in the Bank has been widely praised by fans — even if many people are unhappy about the finish — but one spot during the match has also received a lot of attention.
The particular spot occurred when Knight attempted to hoist Reigns up for a powerbomb onto the announce table, but he was unable to get the WWE World Heavyweight Champion fully raised into position on his first attempt.
After Knight couldn’t get Reigns up, he put the OTC down
and tried again, successfully this time.
Afterwards, many viewers took to social media to call the failed first attempt a “botch” while debating which wrestler caused the perceived mistake.
Many people on X (Twitter) faulted Knight, with some seemingly taking shots at what they characterized as his lack of strength.
“The powerbomb through the announce table spot by L.A. Knight on Roman Reigns. Um, was a near disaster. Knight is NOT Brock Lesnar. lol,” read one such comment.
“LA KNIGHT almost KILLED Roman Reigns in that powerbomb/piledriver,” said one X user. “He might actually be worse than GOLDBERG”
“Never skip leg day, LA Knight,” said a user of Meta’s Threads.
But not everyone agreed with that assessment, instead believing Reigns was at fault for the awkward sequence.
“This was actually on Roman not shifting his weight,” said a Threads user.
Others also cited the theory that Reigns didn’t shift his weight properly, and at least one person cited the champion’s body “being so slippery” as a possible cause.
Some people contended Reigns tried to help Knight.
“When LA Knight was trying to lift Roman Reigns, he initially struggled Roman then adjusts himself and helped lift himself up a lil bit so LA Knight could lift him properly,” an X user wrote. “Props to Roman Reigns for making this look good.”
The FadeAwayMedia account gave credit to both men for avoiding a potentially worse scenario, writing: “BRO THIS MOMENT WHERE LA KNIGHT PICKED UP ROMAN REIGNS AND ALMOST DROPPED EM WAS SCARY. Great recovery from both men here.”
“I don’t get the hate for LA Knight’s powerbomb struggle…He made it work in the end and also it added so much to the match,” read another diplomatic reaction.
There were also people arguing that the spot wasn’t a botch at all.
“This was hardly a botch. In such a high energy, high stakes moment, it looked more like an attempt at reversal, with LA recovering from the reversal to continue his move,” said a Threads user.
What do you think of the spot, Cagesiders? Was it a botch? If so, was one man more at fault than the other? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
