It’s officially the last day of 2025, and what a year it has been! The Tigers managed to exceed all expectations AND disappoint their fanbase with a late season slump. They made it to the postseason and advanced
further than anyone thought they might given their September performance. There’s a lot to look forward to in the new year (and plenty of uneasiness about what is going to happen to Tarik Skubal, which we’ll touch on below). But as 2025 becomes 2026, we can wipe the slate clean, leave last year behind us, and hope for new, fresh things for the Tigers (and ourselves) in the new year.
The past week has been quiet for news, but we’ll give you some news highlights to wind down the year with, and see you in 2026.
Detroit Tigers News
- MLB dot com is reporting on 10 players who could define the 2026 season, and naturally Tarik Skubal’s name came up in discussion. Of Skubal, writer Will Leitch said the following:
Only four pitchers have won three Cy Young Awards and are not in the Hall of Fame: Roger Clemens (who has seven and is not there for reasons separate from his career stats) and Max Scherzer, Clayton Kershaw and Justin Verlander, who all figure to be there as soon as they’re eligible.
Skubal will go for his third in a row in 2026 and, ERA fluctuations aside, essentially had the same season in 2025 as he did in 2024. If he does it again, he’ll win that third Cy. That is … if he’s still in American League. Yep, one of the major questions about Skubal remains: Is he going to be a Tiger on Opening Day? After the Trade Deadline? This time next year?
- The Tigers made history by being one of the teams to draft one half of a pair of identical twins.
